NOTICE is hereby given that the
ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING of the Society will be held on Saturday, 8
November 2008 at Cecil Sharp House, time to be announced with the
final notice of the meeting. The business of the meeting will include:
• consideration of the 2007-2008
Annual Report and Accounts and Balance Sheet as at 31 March 2008;
• members’ subscription rates
• appointment and fixing of the remuneration of the Auditors;
• election of the Honorary Treasurer and other members of the
National Council and;
• any other business of which notice is given under Article
9(a). Any member of the Society may submit motions for consideration
at the Annual General Meeting, but these cannot be accepted unless
received by the Company Secretary at Cecil Sharp House, 2 Regent’s
Park Road, London, NW1 7AY no later than 1 August 2008.
PRELIMINARY NOTICE is hereby given under article 16(c) of
vacancies to be filled on the National
Council. Article 16(a) (A) provides for the annual retirement of the
Honorary Treasurer, one third of the Nationally Elected Members and
one third of the Regionally Elected Members of the National Council
with elections to be held to fill those vacancies. In addition, elections
for previously unfilled vacancies for Regionally and Nationally Elected
Members are to be held.

Article 12(a) provides that the National Council shall consist of not
more than nine Nationally Elected and not more than nine Regionally
Elected Members (in addition to the Honorary Treasurer). The vacancies
are therefore for the Honorary Treasurer, five Nationally Elected members
and six Regionally Elected members (for Regions 1, 3-5 and 7)
The names of those retiring are shown in the notes overleaf.
NOMINATIONS
The National Council at its meeting on 17 May 2008 agreed to nominate
Tim Rutherford for election as Honorary Treasurer.
Nominations to fill the vacancies are
invited from members of the Society.
Such nominations must be:
• submitted in writing, preferably on a form available from Cecil
Sharp House or by E-mailing secretary@efdss.org ;
• signed by two members of the
Society accompanied by the written consent of the nominee to act if
elected and;
• be received not later than 19 September 2008 by the Company
Secretary of the English Folk Dance & Song Society, Cecil Sharp
House, 2 Regent’s Park Road, London
NW1 7 AY.
Each nomination must state whether
the nomination is for:
• Honorary Treasurer
• Nationally Elected Member or
• Regionally Elected Member in which case the Region must be |
identified by number.
Candidates should state their full
name, including forename, and, if
necessary, the name by which they are best recognised, and provide,
in not more than 150 words, a statement giving their background, professional
and other relevant experience and views so that this can be circulated
for the information of members. A digital photograph
should also be forwarded to
secretary@efdss.org. The Nominee, Proposer and Seconder must each
quote their Membership Number.
Nominations should be submitted
on forms for the purpose obtainable from Cecil Sharp House or by Emailing
secretary@efdss.org. An
information pack will be provided
with the form.
Candidates should contact the
Company Secretary if they have not received a card acknowledging receipt
of their nomination form within five days of posting.

2. The arrangements for the nomination, seconding and voting for a
Regionally Elected Member are set out in Article 16(e)(ii) which provides
as follows:
A Regionally Elected Member may be elected for each Region. In respect
of the election of a candidate to be a Member of the National Council
each Region shall have a separate election. Only Members whose address
according to the Register of Members is within a particular Region
shall be eligible to vote for a candidate for Membership of the National
Council for that particular Region, save that a Member may vote for
a candidate of another Region provided that the Society has received
a notification in writing signed by such Member of the Region in respect
of which he wishes to vote within three weeks of the preliminary notice
mentioned in article 16(c) and that such Region of his choice shall
be the only Region in respect of which he shall vote for a Regionally
Elected Member.

Region 5 Administrative Counties North Yorkshire, Tyne & Wear,
Cleveland, Durham, Northumberland. That part of the administrative
County of Humberside which is to the north of the River Humber.
Also the whole of Scotland.
Region 6 Administrative Counties Surrey, Kent, West Sussex and East
Sussex, London Boroughs - Kingstonon-Thames, Richmond-on-Thames, Hounslow,
Ealing, Croydon, Sutton and Merton.
Region 7 Administrative Counties Gloucestershire, Shropshire, Hereford
& Worcester, Warwickshire, West
Midlands, Staffordshire, Gwent, Powys, Dyfed, West Glamorgan, Mid
Glamorgan and South Glamorgan.

to be resident in the administrative areas extant before 1 April 1996.
