Mentoring is a new element of the English Folk Dance and Song Society’s (EFDSS) Artists Development Programme. This is an opportunity for one-to-one support for artists, to help develop their professional skills in a specific area.
As a pilot project we will be selecting five artists to be mentored and like the conference, this will focus on emerging artists from our Folk Rising programme. We will work with each selected artist to find an area in their career in which they are looking for support and development. Artists will then be paired with a professional, with appropriate skills and experience, to support them over a 12 month period.
The artists’ development staff at EFDSS will support both the mentor and the mentee throughout this whole process. We want the experience to be more than just answering questions and providing ad hoc help, and so will support all parties to ensure the relationship provides dialogue, learning and development.
