The day will bring together representatives from museums and folk education to share practice as to how these sectors can best work together to create powerful learning experiences.

There will be presentations and practical sessions from artists and staff involved in The Full English Extra project including those from our partner museums: the National Maritime Museum, the Museum of English Rural Life and the National Coal Mining Museum for England.

There will also be short presentations from other folk and museum educators who have led successful partnership projects in this field.

The day aims to:

  • Share practice and experience of creating and delivering folk arts and museum education projects from across the country delivered as part of The Full English Extra

  • Provide a networking opportunity for museum staff and folk educators to widen their knowledge of what both sides are looking for and can offer

  • Explore partnership development between the museum and folk sectors

  • Encourage connections with the wider cultural sector, including music education hubs

  • Demonstrate how best to link work to the school curriculum

  • Introduce freely available learning resources on the EFDSS Resource Bank and elsewhere, for using folk music, dance and drama in schools and in informal learning

  • Provide practical skills sessions with examples of folk song and music used in The Full English Extra projects

This event is free however advance booking is necessary.
