Dec[ember] 23 1914. Arrived at New York at 4 p.m. Was met on quay by Mr Raines, Barker’s stage manager who helped me get my baggage through the customs & then escorted me in a taxi to the Hotel Algonquin in 44th S[treet] West. Here I had tea in my bed room, phoning Miss [Jean] Wick & [Harley Granville] Barker. the latter with her husband Mr Adams called up me at the Hotel after dinner and then walked with me to the Barkers where I stayed till 1 a.m. & discussed business & other matters.1 Mrs B[arker] in bed with lumbago.
