Mr McMannaway called at 9.30 and we discussed the qualities of different districts for song collecting. He promised to motor us out to Brown’s Cove — about 18 miles off — tomorrow. Acting on his advice we hired a motor and went out to a school house between Simeon & Woodridge, about 8 miles off. There we interviewed the schoolmaster Mr Taylor who advised us to call on a Mrs Campbell. This we did & got a couple of ballads from her. Then on to a Mr N. B. Chisholm who lived in a most inaccessible place which we had great difficulty in finding. He was a first rate folk singer but it was late & we had 12 miles to walk home so we promised to call again on Sat[urday]. A very tiring walk home the last 3 or 4 miles in darkness and we stumbled about & hurt our feet rather badly.Location
