Wrote letters to Constance etc then walked down 5th Ave[nue] where Maud bought me a walking stick and a tie — both very nice and very expensive of course. We lunch at home. Miss Beiderhaze comes in about circular for Winter School at 5. Dinner at 6.30, after which we dress — I in flannels — and so to hall in Taxi, feeling rather nervous. Quite a large audience containing many very nice people. The lecture went quite well and the dance splendidly. After the latter I got in some good clinching remarks about the importance of collecting songs & dances before it was too late. Altogether a great success, marred only by Maud very nearly fainting afterwards. I get her home in a taxi and she goes straight to bed whither I go also after an hour or two’s cooling down.Location
