Tried to work at my book — R[unning] Set — in the morning but was very depressed over the failure of the Carnegie business and found it practically impossible to concentrate myself. Went to lunch with the Gilman’s and had a nice and long talk with them afterwards which cheered me up. After rest and tea, worked further further at my book but still without doing any good. Then walked round to Charlotte Foss’s to dinner despite the state of the streets which is really terrible. Dined with her and Ruth Deane and then all four of us went to the Ethical School to the N[ew] Y[ork] centre evening. I taught two dances, the Whim and Hit & Miss and did my best to buck them up and make them dance decently. There were a lot of people there but for the most part they dance very badly though they seem to enjoy themselves.Location
