Did plenty of good work at my book and started on the Introduction. Worked hard all the morning except for a quick visit to Putnams. Lunched downstairs and then rested. After tea worked again at my book and then dressed to dine at the Dyneley Prince’s (131 East 69th) and go to the Opera afterwards. A pleasant dinner sitting between Mrs Prince and Mrs Elliot the latter rather a grand lady, befurred & bediamonded. Williams Water Commission there also. Then we taxi’d to the opera to hear Carmen1 with Caruso. Caruso is just a sentimental ordinary minded person with a natural organ which he has done his best to spoil. I liked the singing of Miss Peterson presumably a Scandinavian. Interested in the music, nine tenths of which is just manufactured although cleverly so in most cases. The well known melodies are fine. Got home shortly before midnight.Location
