Got some letters from home directly after breakfast and having read them chartered a motor and drove out to Morgan’s Dairy, about 2_ miles away to see Mrs Snipes, Mrs Godfrey’s Aunt (really her husband’s sister). Didn’t felt up to walking as weather was hot and I still feel effects of my illness. Stayed 2 or more hours on the verandah and took down several songs some rather nice ones. Mrs S[nipes] had known an immense number of songs which she had learned from her father who must have been a fine songster, but she is a bad singer and could not remember very much. Back to lunch, walking home, feeling rather tired. After tea write up my books and 2 or 3 letters to Tobacconist in Asheville & Meyrowitz (sending 2 exposed films). After dinner went to Movies to see official films of U.S.A. at war, a very feeble affair and very dull. We sat out 5 reels and then sacrificed the remaining 2 and went home. A great chance lost — after the manner of the official mind which is much the same inept, unimaginative thing all the world over.Location
