Transcription Notes
Very cold indeed all day and we were glad to sit over the fire downstairs in the hall. What a wonderful climate! I am still feeling very seedy but am a little better to day. In the morning write several letters to Nellie Kendall, Constance, Putnam’s, Mearns (Buntingford, England) Fairfield, (bandmaster). After tea, Maud being unwell, I go out to try to get some songs from the Factory girls over West and draw 2 or 3 houses without result. Call on the Freemans but find him & his wife out. Stay & talk to daughters, play on their organ, but get no songs. These factory girls are quite useless — a sight of them in their Sunday best was enough to make angels weep — that is if they can spare any more tears for America! It rained hard all day and prospects for this week look pretty bad. Had dinner alone, Maud having hers in bed. Went to bed pretty early after discussing with Maud at some length my book on dancing, by way of clearing my own mind on the subject! She is a good [….?] upon which to strop my wits!Location
