Slept not too well but wake up feeling fitter than I have done for a week or more. Fix up trunks before going down to breakfast and have them sent to the station to be checked. Then pack suit case and write up tunes — have taken down just 200 tunes in 7 weeks i.e. less than average both in quantity & quality. Then go out to P[ost] O[ffice] to get stamps & letters and arrange about having my mail sent on to Burnsville. Wired to Miss Gilman yesterday. We catch the 1.5 train at the Junction where to our annoyance we find that Maud’s trunk, although properly checked, has been left behind at Marion Southern Station! We have a wonderful journey through the mountains climbing up pretty well 3000 feet to Alta Pass. Shortly after we leave there we get stuck up for 1_ hours owing to a break down of a freight train ahead of us. So we arrive 2 hours late. Find quite a nice hotel at Burnsville — the Mr Wray — but do not get very good rooms, although Mr Wray promises us better ones tomorrow. Weather very cold, partly because of the altitude — about 2800 feet. A pretty, quiet & cosy little place, County seat of Yancey Co[unty], N[orth] C[arolina].Location
