Tuesday 17 September 1918 Burnsville Took our lunch and went out towards Lower Jack’s Creek. Called on Mrs Ayres and found her out then on Mrs Styles, Mrs Hensley and get nothing from them nor from Mr & Mrs Fox. The Fox family are evidently too grand — belonging to the landed-gentry rather than the singing fraternity. Then about noon we got to old Mr Noel Styles, 76 years of age. His wife was out but he insisted on our staying to dinner which we did at the imminent risk of our lives! After dinner found his "help" Mr Laurel Jones knew many songs and we got 10 or more from him, two very fine ones, Young Hunting, & the Hangman. We got caught in a bad thunderstorm which stuck us up for 2 or 3 hours & it was after 5 before we got home. Mrs Jones’s mother & aunt live hard by in Pig Pen & Egypt & we hope to go there on Thursday. The train breaks down again & is 6 hours late so no letters nor paper to-day! That is the fourth time there has been a smash and delay in the 7 days we have been here. No one seems to mind so I suppose it is all right!
