Did not feel over well in the morning so thought it better not to attempt a long expedition, but stay at home, rest & write up our books etc. First of all I wrote letters to Peabody, Bank, Grove Park Inn and Bradley. Then lighting a fire in the next room I wrote out tunes till lunch. After tea wrote letters to Mrs Godfrey, Mr Harris, Mrs M. Cannady, Mr Ebe Richards, Mr Jake Sowder & Miss Goldie Beckett. Then I went through my photographs, sent a lot off to the above addresses and afterwards made general statistical lists — singers on this trip, number of Child ballads etc & so on till dinner time. An American soldier comes over from Spruce Pine to speak at the Baptist Church but I am feeling so unwell and Maud so tired that we decide not to go & hear him but retire to bed early and this we do. It will be as much as we can do to get through this next week without trouble as we are both pretty well done up — perhaps no wonder as we have been going it pretty strongly for 10 or 11 weeks without any rest beyond the 3 or 4 days in the heat at Roanoke.Location
