Maud not very well so decides to stay in bed. I go off to Micaville by myself, by train in icy-cold weather; so cold in fact that I take my overcoat with me. Travel with Hensell who is ill and returning to Raleigh. Walked up Cave Branch to see Ef. Chrisom again, eating my lunch on the steps of the Baptist Church in the full glare of the sun. When I arrived at Ef’s cabin, found her son there sitting before the fire recovering from what looked suspiciously like Spanish flu. She seemed worried and couldn’t sing though she tried. This was a great disappointment as I had expected good things from her. Have no doubt but that she knows them. Then walked back to Micaville to the Ivey’s where I found poor Julie smashed up with a sprained ankle, damaged knee and neck owing to a bad fall. However, she insisted on singing to me and I took down 3 fairly good things from her — and that was all I got to-day. Went back to the store & telephoned for a motor to meet me which it did about a mile out of the village. Gave Maud some tea when I returned and wrote letters etc till dinner. Maud stayed in bed all day, very wisely.Location
