Raining hard when we woke up but got finer as day went on. Train rather late — about an hour — but we got to Asheville, trunks & all, at 11.45. I felt very seedy with a bad headache and neuralgia over my right eye, but the sleep in the afternoon more or less cured it. It was nice to get comfortably settled at the Grove Park Inn before lunch and to have a really good meal, well served & nicely cooked! I slept for nearly 2 hours after lunch. After tea we sat out on the terrace & enjoyed the view. Trunks arrived in the afternoon giving us nice time to get unpacked and settled up. Dressed for dinner after which there was the usual organ recital and educational "movie" show. The relief of having finished ones work in the mountains and got away without mishap is very great and I feel really inclined to laze for a few days — eat & sleep and recover generally. The weather is quite warm and the autumn tinted trees on Sunset Mountain are quite lovely. Hotel surprisingly empty compared with last year.Location
