Went off to Raudeggen’s studio at 10 and tried (in vain alas!) to do some accompaniments. After tea spent some time at Meyrowitz about my pince- nez as I am having my old ones mended and a duplicate pair made — also about my lantern slides which still hang fire. Busied myself in arranging my slides at home until Howard Brockway came to dinner. We went to the Old English place and came back to the hotel afterwards. I found him an interesting man — I knew him to be a good musician — a Harvard graduate who spent 7 years in Germany studying his art. Now he is a hack music-master — according to his own account — teaching day & night for 9 or 10 months and resting the remaining weeks, being then too fatigued to compose or practise in any way his craft. The folksong business has got a tight hold of him and the little collecting he has done has fired him to do more. We spent a very pleasant time talking & comparing notes. He left at 11.30 — really 10.30 as we had to put back our watches to-night.Location
