Maud typed letters after breakfast to Jayne of Detroit, Dr Shippen and Miss Dyar. I also wrote to Iden Payne, Dearmer, Mrs Storrows, Miss Edith Canterbury and Brockway. Maud and I then had a long confab about our plans & movements. We both came to the conclusion that we ought to get back to England sooner than April and that the prospects of California were not good enough to warrant our staying for that trip. My own feeling in the matter is that now I have finished off the mountain work my main reason for remaining in America has gone and that my only justification would be to make money for Constance. And as the latter looks doubtful the obvious thing is to clear out. So we go to Brit[ish] Consul & White Star office & see if it is possible to get a permit from the Army people and berths in a ship sailing early in Dec[ember]. We fill up forms and are to interview military people at 3 p.m. on Wednesday. In the evening the Campbells come to dinner and spend the evening in my room afterwards where we sing talk & make merry. They are nice people & no mistake.Location
