Had a good night, thank Heaven, the first good sleep I have had for nearly a week. I slept on till 9 a.m. having gone to bed at 10 last night. After a very late breakfast we wrote several letters crying off engagements at California etc to Miss Lyman, Mr Whiting Prof[essor] Kleeberger, Mr MacGregor & Feakins. Miss Whitworth & Miss Rutherford came to lunch. It appears they had written to us cancelling our engagement here but as the letter had not reached us we had of course come on. Now they are endeavouring to get the class together and will probably succeed. We had a long talk with them. After they had gone I had a good rest, sleeping well. After tea wrote letters etc and then had dinner down stairs. But before dinner Maud and I went out to the Depot to get my hair brushes which I am glad to say turned up all right. I wouldn’t have lost them for anything as I have used them daily for 32 years! Cleveland is a large but very dirty place with some good streets in it.Location
