Early breakfast at 8(!) and then at 9.15 Miss Barnard calls for us and takes us per tram to Normal School where I give a lecture to a large number of people, mainly faculty of Normal School, principals of elementary schools (schools are closed because of epidemic) etc — quite a good audience. I do not speak very well but I manage to get a good deal out in some sort of way. The dances went very well. Back home to lunch driven by Mr Thomas, a Professor of English in one of the large institutions here. Classes as usual at 4.30-6.30. Afterwards we dine again at Duklane’s and then take our second Morris Class. I allowed them to heckle me afterwards and Miss Tucker & Miss Hale aired their objections. It is pathetic to see how by some subterfuge they try to make out that some of the dances done in the country places are of American origin. One student claimed the quadrille as an American dance! Home at 10 o’clock very tired indeed. Wrote to Willert and Miss Liggett.Location
