Called at 6.30 and left the hotel at 7.30 boarding the train shortly before 8 where we had breakfast. We reached Detroit at 1 p.m. and taxi’d to the Statler where we got rather indifferent rooms provisionally. Had lunch in the hotel and then went to my room and had a good sleep till nearly 5 when we had tea. Then we moved into better rooms on the 8th floor, got our trunks and began to settle in. Had a long telephone message from Miss Perrin and then wrote a long letter to Constance. Dinner downstairs at a table next to one at which a red-tab & two other English officers were sitting. They looked so jolly it made me want to get home more than ever. After dinner went to the library — quite a good one — and took out a book each. Then wrote letters to Miss Davis, Mrs Aldrich and the Cunard Co.Location
