Maud still very seedy so had breakfast in bed while I had mine downstairs. Soon after breakfast I called on Dr Slocum — found him out — Underwoods, Gramophone Co[mpany] and bought some socks a pair of boots at Harman’s and had my corns cut! Lunched downstairs. In the afternoon wrote letters to Willert, Aldrich, Forsyth, Leslie, Miss Whitworth. Weather warmer but not very pleasant. The President left N[ew] York for France this morning at 10 a.m. to the usual American accompaniment of whistles, gongs, bells etc! Had a telegram from Miss Hewitt which I answered and also another letter from Miss Hinman. We go to Boston for week and are getting reservations for Saturday by 1 p.m. train. In the evening we dined at the Gilmans meeting Rabold and Kenneth Wheeler, the latter in officer’s uniform having been just discharged from Fort Dodge. The party was in honour of Sam Butler’s birthday & Peggy Scovill came on purpose for it. We had a very intimate and delightful evening and talked & played & sang till a late hour, Peggy driving us home in her taxi.Location
