Got up without bath, shave or a wash as the water in the whole of this block had been cut off since 10 p.m. last night! Breakfasted downstairs & then went off and washed at the Grand Central Station! Took the subway to Bowling Green where we went through the usual tiresome business in getting yellow embarkation tickets for our voyage. Then to White Star to find that the sailing of the Adriatic has been postponed to the 18th and might sail even later! As the Lapland which was to have sailed tomorrow had been postponed to Tuesday we transferred our reservations, and went back to Bowling Green & had our yellow tickets re-made out! Called at Benedicts for Charlie’s links and made one or more purchases; then back to lunch at hotel sending Constance a cable, and wires to Mrs Storrows and Miss Hewitt, and cancelling tickets to Boston tomorrow. Then went out shopping till 6 p.m. when we returned nearly dead with fatigue and had tea. Charlotte called & we 3 had tea at P[eg] Woff[ington’s]. Wrote letters to Campbell & Potter & Bank, signed certificates and tumbled into bed after a bath thank goodness.Location
