The English Folk Dance and Song Society is providing two dedicated bursaries for musicians of colour to attend the English Acoustic Collective Summer School, 18–22 July 2022.
The EAC Summer School provides a week-long, intensive, and in-depth creative experience of English traditional folk music, led by three of England’s most highly respected folk musicians and educators – Rob Harbron, Miranda Rutter, and Sam Sweeney.
Musicians of colour are under-represented in the English folk music sector. This bursary scheme is part of EFDSS’ work to diversify the range of people involved in English traditional folk music on a professional level, as performers and educators.

Applications are invited from musicians of colour who are:
- Skilled, professional musicians who learn and play music competently by ear
- Players of any acoustic, melody instrument – this opportunity is not open to musicians who are solely percussionists or vocalists
- Interested in English folk music with a strong desire to learn more – prior experience of English folk music is not essential, although a background in traditional folk music (originating anywhere in the world) would be advantageous
- Experienced and committed educators – one of the bursaries will be earmarked for a musician who is also an active educator
- New to the EAC Summer School
How to apply?
