Quite some years ago now, we invited Folk Dance Remixed to become our Associate Company.
Folk Dance Remixed play a key part in our missions to support the creative development of the folk arts, and to engage a greater diversity of people in the folk arts.
Folk Dance Remixed is a ground-breaking company creating fusions between folk and hip hop styles with live music. It is led by Artistic Directors Kerry Fletcher and Natasha Khamjani. Folk Dance Remixed rediscovers old traditions through contemporary forms, and takes it out on the streets through performances, Street Dance the Maypole workshops and participatory Ceilidh Jams.
Folk Dance Remixed present fresh, quirky, colourful and magical high-energy collisions of Maypole, Clogging, Ceilidh, Street, House and Breakdance, with a hint of African & Bollywood, to a live soundtrack of fiddle and beat boxing – Folk and Street Dance like you’ve never seen it before!
We support Folk Dance Remixed by
- providing free space for their rehearsals and R&D work
- getting involved directly in their projects, including by commissioning their activities
- and as a listening ear.
