Colin has called for the whole range of English dance – from ceilidhs and barn dances, through to Playford balls and American-style contra dances. He is known for his modern interpretations of historical dances as well as for his own compositions in a similar style. Colin comments on the changes in society which give less time to regular social activities, and the competing leisure pursuits when time does become available. As with many others arts and cultural activities, there is an increasing age profile. But Colin suggests that what is needed are enthusiastic young people to take the social folk dance world forward, and for folk dance evenings to be more fun, more lively and for the dancing to be inspiring.
