Like any ‘grand dame’ of nearly a century old, Cecil Sharp House, which celebrates its 90th birthday this year, has borne witness to the ebbs and flows of the folk world over the decades. In this edition, we are calling out to readers to share their photos and memories of the House. Meanwhile, centenarian John White, who has been coming to the House since the 1930s, reminisces about his experiences of singing and dancing there.
We also feature some other folk celebrations happening around the country. The Hoy at Anchor Folk Club in Essex marks its 50th anniversary, Jon Wilks lauds the jewels that are Birmingham’s folk songs, while young folk dancer Abi Smith celebrates her experiences of step dancing in Dartmoor.
There are also regular features including reviews, dance events, festival listings, lives remembered and much more.
The Spring 2020 edition is available to order via our Folkshop.
