Essex Folk Song Discovery: Coastal Songs
Songs mainly for Key Stages 2 & 3
Packed with fantastic folk songs from the coastal regions of Essex, this resource is full of pirates, sailors, fisherman and more. With a focus on Key Stage 2 and 3, with audio, notation and teachers’ notes, there’s a song here for everyone. This resource was produced by EFDSS in 2018 as part of the Essex Folk Song Discovery project commissioned by Essex Music Education Hub in support of their vocal strategy and to increase awareness of local heritage.
Professional folk artists Aimée Leonard, Dave Delarre, Nick Hart and Maz O’Connor sourced songs, collected in Essex in the 19th and early 20th centuries, and arranged them for young voices.
This pack contains the arrangements of nineteen folk songs collected from Essex: Jacky Robinson, Dark Eyed Sailor, Heave Away on the Trawl Warp, Brisk Young Sailor, Cod Banging Song, Admiral Benbow, Adieu Sweet Lovely Nancy, William Taylor, William and Mary, Ward the Pirate, The Saucy Sailor Boy, The Fisherman, Poor Smugglers Boy, Oliver Cromwell, Never Sail No More, Lakes of Cold Finn, Nancy of Yarmouth, The Herring Song, and My Shoes are Made of Spanish.
