Lunatraktors
Award-winning ‘broken folk’ duo Lunatraktors rework traditional music with influences from post-punk, music hall and pagan rave. Lunatraktors strip Anglo-Celtic folk down to its bare bones. Their primal, ritualistic sound blends tonal drumming and harmonic singing with deep drones from accordion and analogue synth. Le Couteur’s self-taught overtones and 3+ octave range combine with Jefferson’s polyrhythmic hybrid of tap, flamenco, body percussion and acoustic beats.
Daisy Beau
Gracefully establishing herself as an indie folk icon, Daisy Beau timelessly intertwines late-night jazz with early-hours folk. As a child of the UK’s bohemian underground, Daisy grew up immersed in nomadic music culture and folk activism. An extraordinary musical polymath and creative innovator, her musical prowess is evident in each multi-instrumental performance of her original compositions and traditional folk melodies.
Doors open at 7pm, on-stage at 7.30pm.
Somatic Sound Workshop
29 September 2024, 3:30pm-5:00pm
Bookings opening soon
‘Somatic Sound’ is a body and voice workshop suitable for all ages and abilities, led by award-winning ‘broken folk’ duo Lunatraktors: choreographer / percussionist Carli Jefferson and composer / singer Clair Le Couteur.
We will introduce participants to some tools for working creatively and somatically: an integrated form of expression giving our bodies more voice and our voices more body. Combining basic techniques from body percussion and overtone singing, we can not only expand our individual sense of power and resonance, but we also open our ears and hearts again to each other. We combine simple dance steps with body percussion and harmonic singing, drawing inspiration from the rhythms, tunes and stories of the British folk tradition.
Clair and Carli are a queer couple and Clair is visually impaired; people of all ages, abilities, body types, genders, ethnicities and cultural backgrounds are welcome in the circle. Whether you are just taking your first steps and eager to learn something new, or you an experienced singer and dancer bringing your own knowledge, you will be equally valued by the group.
Taking part in the folk tradition helps us find hope and power through our voices, our bodies, and our desire for compassionate, creative communities. Across the world and throughout history, music and movement have brought people together. We believe that experimenting with traditional music allows us to express and transform ourselves, generating joyful experiences.
