Curly Headed Ploughboy
Curly Headed Ploughboy
This is a very well known tune, and often played in folk sessions in pubs and festivals across the country. It was collected from William Hemming by Cecil Sharp on 21 Sept 1922, in Abingdon, Oxfordshire.
This tune is in the Three Folk Tunes for Secondary Schools collated for The Full English schools projects that Oli Matthews was involved in at Horizon Community Academy, Barnsley and Stantonbury Campus, Milton Keynes. These projects worked with students at Key Stages 3 and 4 (11-15years), and aimed to use folk music to increase confidence and skills regarding composition, improvisation, arranging and performance skills. The projects also emphasised the important relationship between folk music and dance.
