Folk and Traditional Music to accompany a performance by National Youth Folk Ensemble and Leveret
In February 2019, the National Youth Folk Ensemble and acclaimed folk band Leveret presented an interactive performance in Giggleswick, North Yorkshire, for local school children and an online audience.
The live-streamed show was made in collaboration with North Yorkshire music charity NYMAZ as part of Connect: Resound, a project which brings musical experiences to schools via the internet, to help overcome the barriers that those based in rural areas can face when providing musical opportunities for children and young people.
This resource pack was produced to introduce teachers and students to folk and traditional music ahead of watching the performance. The film of the performance is still available to watch at https://www.youtube.
The performance took place during the National Youth Folk Ensemble’s residential course with leading folk musicians and educators Sam Sweeney (National Youth Folk Ensemble Artistic Director 2016-19), Rob Harbron, Andy Cutting, Emma Reid, Sam Partridge, and special guest Tim Dalling.
The National Youth Folk Ensemble is an English Folk Dance and Song Society programme funded by Arts Council England.
